Privacy Policy
RateStack is a currency converter that works on your device. It has no account, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. The developer doesn't collect, store, sell, or share any personal data.
Data that stays on your device
RateStack saves the following only on your iPhone, in the app's storage and in a shared container that its widgets can read:
- Your currency stacks, their order, and the last amount you typed, if you keep that setting on.
- Cached exchange rates and when they were last updated.
- Conversion history, which is off by default.
- Rate alerts, personal rates, widget settings, and appearance preferences.
- A usage record that unlocks the Gold theme. It's stored in the iPhone Keychain and never leaves your device.
Deleting the app removes this data. The usage record in the Keychain may remain until you reset your iPhone.
Network requests
To get exchange rates, RateStack downloads public data directly from these services. Requests contain no account details, identifiers, or amounts you type:
- Frankfurter (
api.frankfurter.dev) - Fawaz Ahmed Exchange API, served by jsDelivr and Cloudflare
- ExchangeRate-API open access (
open.er-api.com) - FloatRates (
floatrates.com), only if you choose it - Binance public ticker and DolarApi, only if you choose the Parallel Market source
- Coinbase public market data, and CoinGecko as a backup, for crypto and metal prices and charts
Like any website, these services can see your IP address when your device connects to them. Their own privacy policies govern how they handle it. RateStack doesn't send them anything else about you.
Notifications
If you create a rate alert, RateStack asks for permission to send notifications. Alerts are checked on your device and delivered as local notifications. No push server is involved.
Clipboard
RateStack places an amount on the clipboard only when you choose Copy. It doesn't read your clipboard in the background.
Diagnostics
The Rate Information screen can share a short diagnostic text that you send yourself. It includes the rate source, dates, and the number of currencies, but no amounts you typed.
This website
The RateStack website uses no cookies, analytics, or tracking. To show live rates, your browser loads public data from Frankfurter and jsDelivr.
If you send a suggestion, your message and any email address you choose to include are emailed to the developer through Cloudflare. They're used only to read and reply to your suggestion. If delivery is delayed, your suggestion is held on Cloudflare for up to 30 days, then deleted.
To block spam, the suggestion form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which loads only after you start using the form. Each suggestion is also checked against a rate limit that keeps a one-way hash of your IP address for up to 24 hours. The hash can't be turned back into your IP address, and it isn't used for anything else.
Children
RateStack doesn't collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
